HISTORY

Globetrotter Travel Management Services, Inc. was founded in 1963 as a leisure and business travel agency in Baltimore, Maryland with branches in Montgomery County, Maryland which serviced the District of Columbia. In 1985, Globetrotter was purchased by Glenn J. Harris, President and Michael A. Buttner, Chairman and C E O.

Soon after purchasing Globetrotter, there was a desire to grow the company corporately and in meetings with professional memberships and associations. In 1986, Globetrotter signed on its first association account, The National Association of Music Merchants for airline reservations, car rentals and meetings. Since then, Globetrotter has serviced over sixty associations of various sizes and travel needs including airline reservations, housing for meetings, registration, and pre and post meetings.

Our staff has grown from 4 in 1985 to 40 core employees with additional part time and seasonal meeting planners and data entry staff.

Today, Globetrotter provides meeting planning and airline reservations for over 600 meetings in the Baltimore-Washington Metro area alone and service over 60 meetings across the United States and internationally. Because of our successful top rated service, Globetrotter has been ranked Number One in the Baltimore and Washington Business Journals that was recently published in July, 2009.

The corporate travel division managed by Sandi Colwell, services our clients airline, individual hotel, car rental. Today, this department handles domestic and international reservations from clients all over the world.

Globetrotter's forty plus years of excellent service and reputation in the travel industry have gained recognition from all of airline, hotel, and car rental vendors' world wide.

In addition, our vacation leisure division, the foundation of our company now services over 25,000 clients worldwide.

In 1996, Ken DeMatteo joined Globetrotter as Executive Vice President, where he manages the specialty group department and sports travel divisions. He is responsible for managing pre and post tours, study-mission tours, travel for universities and travel for affinity groups. For many years, Globetrotter has provided group travel services to scores of clients with 10 to 30,000 members.

Globetrotter was selected in 2009 to receive the Peak of Excellence award from the Sabre Travel Network as innovators and passionate professionals within the travel agency community and for the exemplary business leadership and inspiration to others.

Over the last twenty five years, Globetrotter has invested in advanced technology to service the travel, meeting, group and security needs of our clients.

Our staff also holds a long history with our company as many employees have been with our company for over 18 years. Our retirees continue to service our clients as tour escorts and on-site meeting desk staff. Globetrotter has proven through our forty plus years of existence, that our clients truly believe "without us, they are on their own."
